In their “classical” song repertoire, Natalie Dessay and Laurent Naouri have always drawn inspiration from their love of “popular” song, trying to make it more immediate and accessible to the contemporary listener. But how exactly do you define the two adjectives “classical” and “popular”, and is it necessary to oppose them? Why not tackle great melodies like good songs and treat songs with the respect granted to melodies? Who better to celebrate this union than the jazz musicians brought together by pianist Guillaume de Chassy, who is such an expert at making Schubert swing? Jazz, as Claude Nougaro so aptly put it, "is the classical music of the twentieth century."
