Thank you for your understanding
Along with Faust by Gounod and Carmen by Bizet, Samson and Delilah is one of the most popular operas in the French repertoire. The libretto, based on scripture, explores the love-hate relationship between Samson and the temptress Delilah. Religion and passion are intertwined in an irresistible blend with majestic choral frescos. The particularly lush orchestration is full of subtle perfumes conjuring up the voluptuous East. Roberto Alagna has already given us a glimpse of a strong Samson in recital, but he will sing it for the first time here in full. Delilah is in the Carmen mode and we can’t wait to hear Marie-Nicole Lemieux in this role, which is seductive and evil in equal measure, as she knows how to deploy a full range of emotions without ever overdoing it. A double dose of treachery and voluptuousness will be in store tonight.
