Rameau Suite des Indes Galantes (version by Christian Zacharias)
Haydn Symphony No. 91 Hob. I:91
Mozart Concerto for piano No. 17 K. 453
The German pianist conducts Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 from the keyboard. The supple playing style of this performer, who has twice recorded Mozart’s complete concertos, is shown to its full in Haydn’s Symphony No. 91. Its elegance persists throughout the movements, punctuated by piquant solos such as the bassoon part in the Andante. Christian Zacharias has created his own Suite des Indes galantes by Rameau. This work from 1735 is an opera-ballet which was published in the form of “four concerts”. The different pieces comprise music and symphonies grouped together by tonality. Each piece was conceived for the pure pleasure of contrasts and beauty.
